Wavesight has a long history of support to the Defence industry, where resilience of communications, rugged simplicity but high performance are key drivers.

Throughout Europe and particularly within the British MOD, Wavesight’s Probot series Fibre Optic Modems are widely recognised as the ‘de-facto’ standard for fibre communication in theatre, having provided the forces with dependable, secure communication links for voice and data for many years. Subject to constant ongoing development, Probot is an integral part of Cormorant, the MOD’s mobile communications backbone for the new Joint Rapid Reaction Force (JRRF), evidence of its reliability and effectiveness in field.

Wavesight also offers a range of high performance wireless solutions for defence use. Launched in 2005, its new WaveMAX range of 2.4 and 5 GHz radios offer a quickly deployable solution for use in perimeter security, inter-camp communications and command centre – outpost communications traffic. Their small size and weatherproofed construction (rated to IP65) for dependable operation between -40c and +50c – assures communications can be maintained in even the most inhospitable environments.

Security of radio over fibre has long been a consideration for the forces. WaveMAX draws on Wavesight’s defence expertise to incorporate military-levels of security, including 128 bit AES, TKIP and Wavesight’s own unique packet compression technology, SPG1, providing a highly effective solution for point to point and multi point communications traffic.

Wavesight’s latest development, WaveSEC is an industry first in its merger of state of the art IP Video Codec and WaveMAX radio technology, to produce wireless surveillance systems with full real time video, audio and telemetry control that can be set up in minutes. With their ruggedised construction and built in reliability of all Wavesight products, these are already attracting the interest of the defence community in Europe and further afield.
