Indira Gandhi International Airport is located in the National Capital Region of Delhi, India. Terminal 3, opened in 2010, is a state-of-the-art and integrated future terminal. It is the 24th largest building in the world and 8th largest passenger terminal. It occupies an area of 5,400,000 sq. ft., with a capacity to handle 34 million passengers annually. The requirement was to deploy a CCTV surveillance system designed to protect the retail area, minimise fraudulent activities and monitor passenger movements in and out of the retail area.
One of the main challenges faced was the fact that the deployment was being carried out in an indoor location with limited space. Limited power and interference from multi point radios previously deployed also needed to be taken into consideration while designing and planning the solution.
The System Integrator – Tyco Security Products along with Wavesight deployed a wireless network using 36 wireless point to multipoint radios allowing the network to operate with minimal interference and within the limited space. The wireless radios from Wavesight – optimised for CCTV surveillance also helped transmit D1 quality images. The cameras used in this project was HD Megapixel Outdoor IP Cameras from AXIS Communications.
